Facade Lighting - Amager Centre

Compared to most other shopping malls, the Amager Centre in Copenhagen has a completely different history. Rather than being a recent, newly developed and purpose built structure, it’s an old cordage factory that has been carefully and intelligently modified to serve a new purpose. Avast amount of the original structure has been maintained, but a new facade, designed by CF Møller Architects, has been added in recent years, creating a unique identity for the building by day and night.

As the suburb of Amager grows, more and more shopping centres have been built to compete for customers. In recent years, the decision has been made to upgrade the Amager Centre with a new, spectacular exterior lighting scheme. The main goal was to create a truly unique exterior, that makes the building stand out both during the day, and especially at night time. Of course, efficiency and ease of use played a huge role in the planning process - and given the fact that the centre was fully operational whilst works were taking place, a solution was preferred that could be installed within a small timeframe.
The LED iBond solution
Where other LED products are using Printed Circuit Boards, which typically only come in a small variety of lengths and are limited in shape, LED iBond’s patented technology creates customised lighting elements that can be adapted to a wide array of shapes, forms and architectural details.
This was particularly useful when illuminating the Amager Center: LED iBond manufactured custom-made elements that adapted to the architectural surroundings. This means that the 8 meters of installed LED-panels provided efficient lighting through indirect illumination over the center’s 3 facades. Paired with a dimmable driver, it created an iconic lighting experience where the visual impression is adapted to the surrounding street lighting
In a highly competitive environment, LED iBond won this assignment as we were able to solve this lighting challenge better and with a more powerful illumination than conventional solutions, but it also offered considerable cost advantages and an extremely quick and easy installation process.
