Create a smart home with LED lighting
Over the years, technological advancements have led to an increase in the use of smart home devices. In the realm of smart lighting, these include a surge in the use of LEDs and smart light fixtures, shelves, and panels. To meet these demands, LED iBond has created our own durable, recyclable, and slim LED panels that can be fitted as part of larger smart home lighting systems. We believe while smart lighting can increase homeowners’ comfort, convenience, and safety, luminaires can be ecologically friendly and cost-efficient.
Home automation is more and more common these days, as technological advancements make the ownership of smart home devices more accessible. But while there is an increased interest in the latest lighting technology for homes, there are some questions that remain puzzling. What are smart homes, exactly? What are its components, and where can smart lighting be implemented?
What are smart homes?
Smart homes are defined as homes equipped with lighting, heating, and electronic devices that can be monitored and controlled remotely by a device such as a smartphone or a computer. These include connected lighting and security systems, voice assistants, smart thermostats, and more.
Home automation can increase comfort and convenience in the home. It can also put in place extra security measures and reduce an individual or a family’s carbon footprint by saving energy in the long run.
Lighting components of smart home systems
As a pioneer in LED innovation, we have ventured into the arena of smart home lighting with creative and robust LED luminaire designs that are both sustainable and technologically advanced.
The use of LEDs in the smart home lighting is a no-brainer when it comes to equipping light fixtures in the home.
The use of LEDs in smart home lighting is a no-brainer when it comes to equipping light fixtures in the home.
Undeniably, traditional luminaires such as Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) are still used in smart home lighting systems these days.
However, LEDs carry many benefits that make them superior to CFLs, from cost to sustainability and usability. These benefits include longer lifespans (with the average LED lifespan at 50,000 hours or around 6 years of continuous use), lower electricity consumption, and more effective energy usage. All of these factors contribute to a lower household carbon footprint and lower household electricity bills.
Additionally, LED iBond has created our own heat management ‘sandwich’ concept that allows our LEDs to dissipate heat more effectively. Proper and effective heat management helps prevent problems of overheating in our light fixtures. Our sandwich concept doubles the lifespan of LED lights hosted in our products, bringing light usage to 100,000 continuous hours or over a decade’s use without replacement.
In adherence to the latest technology for homes, LED iBond’s lighting components can be integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology. This allows our luminaires to be hooked up to a more extensive, connected lighting system so they can be monitored and controlled from one place.
The IoT capabilities of our products also mean our products can be integrated with motion and sound sensors. Lights can be triggered to turn on when you come home and off when you leave, making grocery trips and energy conservation much easier.
Areas to apply smart home lighting
Homeowners can refurbish their entire home and upgrade every traditional luminaire to sustainable LED lights, from the main living areas to kitchens.
In the living and dining areas
LEDs can be installed in recessed lighting molds on ceilings and walls to give each room uniform illumination and to maintain the clean lines of a Nordic home. They can also be installed around the house as efficient task lighting, such as inside desk lamps and standalone lamps.
If users have artwork they would like to display on the walls at home, they can install LED spotlights to deliver high-quality and focused beams to draw focus to display areas.
Additionally, no smart home is complete without the installation of smart shelves. Users can install our Shelly illuminated smart shelf on walls or as part of bookcases to display books, magazines, and collectables. These smart shelves are equipped with sustainable LED lights embedded inside the panels, and their asymmetrical beam angles can optimize the display of objects. They also have no visible wires that will clutter the living space.
The panels are ultra slim at 24mm, yet they can sustain a weight of up to 80kg or 176lbs in weight. They are also made from aluminium and have brushed anodized aluminium surfaces, giving them a scratch-proof quality that will be much appreciated in households with children and pets.
In the kitchen
Aside from the main living areas, smart home lighting is particularly applicable for implementation in the kitchen. As a place where we cook, clean, and sometimes dine, we undoubtedly spend a lot of time there every day.
To make things convenient for homeowners, enter LED iBond Kitchen, a sleek and modern design of extra slim LED panels—our solution to providing durable LED kitchen lighting that can carry users through day and night.
LED iBond Kitchen is our LED concept designed to accommodate kitchen lighting needs, and they include panels that house sustainable LED lights for use in the home. Inspired by our Nordic design roots and manufactured in Denmark, these panels have a sleek and minimalist look that can be subtly integrated into any kitchen.
Our LED iBond Kitchen concept comes in Aluminium Composite Panels (ACPs), which have low heat output thanks to our patented heat management technology. Our ACPs place LEDs between aluminium skins that transmit electrical current to the LED light source. As aluminium is a good heat conductor, the skins can effectively dissipate heat to avoid overheating problems.
These panels can house high-quality LEDs with good light distribution. Light beam angles come at 65°, which means they can be installed as task lighting in areas under cupboards for cooking and meal preparation. Multicolor LEDs are also available for installation to create ambience and personal flair in the kitchen.
Easy to install and clean
LED iBond Kitchen panels can be installed without the use of additional tools and in under five minutes. Just wipe, mount, and plug in the power, and you can begin using quality kitchen lights for years to come.
On top of that, we are a firm believer in practicality, and we believe the upkeep of any kitchen fixture should be easy to maintain. Our aluminium panels can be dusted with a dry cloth or wiped down with a wet one to remove dirt and grease.
Kitchens come in all shapes and sizes and LED iBond Kitchen is ready to accommodate this. Our LED panels are only 6mm thick and 40mm wide, and they carry an overall minimalistic feel and look in line with our Nordic design roots. They come in two sizes—at 1,800mm with 6 LED spots or at 600mm with 2 LED spots.
These slim LED panels can be cut or extended to any given length. They can even be cut in angles to connect around corners, and they can be installed horizontally or vertically, under cabinets or along cupboards.
LED iBond Kitchen is an open system with IoT-integrated panels. This means the panels are compatible with external motion and sound sensors as well as other connected modules such as chargers, timers, and speakers.
Users can control lighting panels, such as turning lights on and off, hands-free with LED iBond Kitchen. They can also use their smartphone to play music and keep track of time through the system. Hands-free control is a must in the kitchen when cooking and cleaning, and it can be extremely helpful for users.
We take the United Nations Global Goals into consideration when we design all our products, and our efforts in creating LED iBond Kitchen are no different.
With more than 90% of the slim LED panel made from recycled aluminium, each is robust and durable while being eco-conscious. Our slim LED panels also provide more light and reduce your electricity bill at the same time with the use of LEDs. All these factors contribute to a significantly lower total cost of ownership compared to other traditional lighting solutions.
